So today let's learn about the prayer that made the sun and moon stand still. The power of prayer. A person when he prayed asking God to make the sun and moon stand still and his prayer was granted and the sun stood still.
Who is that man?
Who prayed to make the sun stand still?
JOSHUA 10:13-14
SO THE SUN STOOD STILL, AND THE MOON STOPPED TILL THE NATION AVENGED ITSELF ON ITS ENEMIES, AS IT IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF JASHAR.
THE SUN STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SKY AND DELAYED GOING DOWN ABOUT A FULL DAY.
THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A DAY LIKE IT BEFORE OR SINCE, A DAY WHEN THE LORD LISTENED TO A HUMAN BEING. SURELY THE LORD WAS FIGHTING FOR ISRAEL.
Who did this prayer?
Why they did this prayer?
What is the purpose behind it?
The man who did this prayer was Joshua.
Who is this Joshua?
He has the power of prayer. The most powerful God answered his prayer and the sun stood still for a whole day.
Every day sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening. But when Joshua prayed sun did not set but it stood still.
Joshua prayed to the most powerful name of God. How wonderful deed it is, that sun did not set but it stood still.
The meaning of Joshua is "God is salvation".
He belongs to the tribe of Ephraim.
His father's name is Nun.
The actual name of Joshua is Hosea, but Moses changed his name to Joshua.
He was very close to Moses. He was with Moses on Mount Sinai for 40 days with fasting and he was in God's presence when God gave the 10 commandments.
God promised he will free Israelites from the slavery of Egypt and will give them the promised land. God is the faithful God. So he made them cross the red sea and also saved them from many attacks and lead them.
When they are in the forest God told Moses to select a person from each tribe of 12 tribes and send them to the Promised land to check that place.
Joshua was selected from the tribe of Ephraim.
So 12 members were selected from each tribe.
They went and brought some items like grapes bunch which two persons have to carry, and pomegranates were the size of a coconut, they even got dates.
God promised the land where honey and milk overflows, which means we get milk from animals, and animals will be where there are lots of food for them right? It means in the promised land, the land was filled with lots of plants and animals and nothing is lacking in that place.
So now these 12 people brought a good report about the promised land but they were scared of people over there. 10 of them reported Canaanites are bigger in size and stronger but they complained that they are weaker than them.
Listening to all of these statements Israelites were scared and wanted to go back to Egypt.
But Joshua and Kaleb gave a good statement telling that we can defeat them with the help of a powerful God.
Actually, it takes only 40 days duration to reach Canaan from Egypt but Israelites were unfaithful to God and received punishment from God. God told Moses that who are above 20 years of age and 10 members who told negative statement including Moses and Aaron will not enter into the promised land.
So they wandered for 40 years in the forest and only the younger generation entered into the promised land under the leadership of Joshua.
God appointed Joshua as the leader in NUMBERS 27:18
SO THE LORD SAID TO MOSES, "TAKE JOSHUA, SON OF NUN, A MAN IN WHOM IS THE SPIRIT OF LEADERSHIP, AND LAY YOUR HAND ON HIM.
Joshua has the spirit of God. So God elected him as leader after Moses.
Moses helped Israelites to cross the red sea, but later Israelites were struck before another river which was the Jordan River. God selected Joshua to help Israelites to cross the Jordan River.
EXODUS 14:29
BUT THE ISRAELITES WENT THROUGH THE SEA ON DRY GROUND, WITH A WALL OF WATER ON THE RIGHT AND ON THEIR LEFT.
JOSHUA 3:17
THE PRIESTS WHO CARRIED THE ARK OF THE COVENANT OF THE LORD STOPPED IN THE MIDDLES OF THE JORDAN AND STOOD ON THE DRY GROUND, WHILE ALL ISRAEL PASSED BY UNTIL THE WHOLE NATION HAD COMPLETED THE CROSSING ON DRY GROUND.
During the war with Canaanites, if the sun goes down they can't continue the war so Joshua prayer earnestly to make the sun stand still and God wanted Israel to win the battle so he made the sun stand still for the full day.
So dear Amigos, even when we pray earnestly our payers will also be answered so pray more and more earnestly like Joshua.
