DAUGHTER OF JEPHTHAH | STORY TIME | thejessyrose

Hello dear Amigos!

I am Jessy Rose, a follower of Christ ✝

How are you all doing?

Hope you are fine and doing well😊

So coming to today's blog as you've read the title already it's about 'Daughter of Jephthah'.

Let's see

JUDGES 11:34-40

Before getting in let's see who is Jephthah first!

Meaning of Jephthah 'God opens'.

He is the 9th Judge in the Bible.

His period is between BC 1188-1182.

He is Gileadite, a mighty warrior.

His father was Gilead. (JUDGES 11:1)

He fled from his brothers and settled in the land of Tob. (JUDGES 11:2)

Sometime later, Ammonites were fighting against Israel.

So elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob to fight against Ammonites and asked him to be their commander.

So Jephthah agreed to go with the elders of Gilead and went to battle to fight against Ammonites.

1. Before going he kept God as his witness. (JUDGES 11:10)

2. He repeated all his words before the Lord in Mizpah. (JUDGES 11:11)

3. He kept Lord as his Judge. (JUDGES 11:27)

4. He was filled with the spirit of God. (JUDGES 11:29)

5. He made a vow to the Lord. (JUDGES 11:30)

6. He devastated twenty towns, that Israel subdued Ammon. (JUDGES 11:33)

7. He returned home with a great victory. (JUDGES 11:34)

When he was returning home, his only daughter, except for her he had neither son nor daughter, came to meet him dancing to the sound of timbrels, to celebrate his victory.

But seeing his daughter instead of celebrating and enjoying, he started crying.

He tore his clothes and cried and told, "Oh no, daughter! You have brought me down and I am devastated".

Why is he crying here instead of enjoying it?

Because he made a vow to the Lord and now he cannot break it.

When his daughter heard it, she agreed with his vow and told his father not to break the promise but to do as he gave word to the Lord.

Now let's see the characteristics of this 'Daughter of Jephthah'.

1. She was obedient.

2. She sacrificed herself.

3. She asked for time to cleanse herself.

4. She went to the hills with her friends.

5. She has wept there.

6. She washed with her tears.

7. She left all her luxurious life behind.

After two months, she came back to her father and he did as he vowed.

She was a virgin when she was sacrificed to the Lord.

Protecting our virginity is very crucial.

But how is this generation?

What did you learn from this 'Daughter of Jephthah' today?

She obeyed her father and sacrificed herself to the Lord, so still, young women of Israel go out for four days to commemorate the daughter of Jephthah.

In Hebrews 11:32 if you check, Jephthah was mentioned in the list of Faith Warriors.

Even we children of God, let's be obedient to the Lord.
